Plan for Spring and Summer with Vintage Sewing Patterns

December 16, 2020 By Lindsay Curren

If you’re hunkered down with the new wave of COVID restrictions and are looking for something productive to do inside, don’t worry — we’ve got you covered. I’ve just added a bunch more vintage womens’ sewing patterns to my shop giving you lots of options for projects to make to get ready for the spring and summer.

Vintage Wedding and Parties

Take your wedding into the Way Back Machine with elegant and original bridal and bridesmaid patterns from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Given that these are patterns, just think of what it would mean to truly design your own dress or the dresses of your bridal party by switching up fabrics, trims, and notions. I love the lines on each of these patterns — they’re elegant, charming, and playful.

I particularly love the cocktail dress options in the circa 1965 Simplicity Pattern #6353 (see above). As a total sucker for the fashions of 1964-1968, this wedding gown and its attendant dresses hits the mark perfectly. I can totally see Marlo Thomas rocking a dress like this on “That Girl,” or Laura Petrie at Rob’s office Christmas party on the “Dick Van Dyke Show.”

A Very Vintage Summer

If you’re looking for something more everyday, there are several new patterns from the 1960s for hanging around the house, going shopping, having a BBQ, meeting a friend at that smart new place for a long lunch, or showing up spiffy for the parent-teacher conference.

Finally, if you’ve got a thing for the _actually_ fabulous fashion decade of the 1970s and you’re up for a knitting or crochet challenge, try a knitted string bikini or a crocheted string bikini on for size. That’ll keep your busy fingers warm on these cold winter nights.

Here’s a gallery of some of these latest additions.
