RARE! These were made in 1956 as a project of Cohama Fabrics and Ivy Print Group as a commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of “Old Nassau” or Nassau Hall, the oldest building at Princeton University. The fabric depicts the colonial’s victorious Battle of Princeton in 1777 along with Old Nassau, George Washington, soldiers, a map, the Princeton University Seal, a log cabin, canons and munitions, and atmospheric trees and ivy.
These two pieces of fabric (sold separately / or together at a reduced rate) are actually sewn into cafe curtains that you would use dangling pinch clips to hang.
We’re selling them as historic fabric for preservation purposes, to stretch over a frame and use as an art canvas, or to use for upcycling into other projects (pillows, quilts, message board, side chair covering, etc.), or use them again as curtains — your choice.
BONUS: As if all of its wonders weren’t enough — it is also entirely hand printed! It also has the information about the makers, the fabric year, and the purpose — 200th anniversary of Old Nassau,) printed on the selvage!
USES: Such a unique item is amazing to source as material for making a gift for a Princeton grad, alum, or to use in a Princeton office. Amazing collectible for serious Princeton fans, especially with the 270th anniversary of Old Nassau only 5 years away.
Excellent for making a patriotic or military gift for anyone or for your dad, uncle, hubby, or grandpa as a fun and personal Father’s Day or birthday gift!
COLORS: Off-white creamy background with navy blue, burnt orange, russet brown, black, taupe, and olive green.
FIBER: 100% cotton, vat dyed, hand printed.
CONDITION: Extremely good for their 65 years of age. Fibers are excellent, and color remains strong. Every so slight — almost imperceptible — discoloration to the background but nothing that mars the pieces, nor anything that would stop your re-use into a new project or to use as they are.
SIZE: 46″ wide x 31″ long. NOT counted in those dimensions are the following: a 4 + 9/10″ bottom hem, a 1.25″ top hem an d a 9/10ths hem on each side. This means that if the hems are picked out there is a bit more fabric overall, including a full second rendition of Old Nassau to use, and the rest of a second standing George Washington to use (for example, if wanting to make two long pillows with the full motifs). See below about picking out.
Old Nassau is 16″ wide by 11″ high; the George Washington is 5″ wide by 9″ high; the Princeton University insignia is 3″ wide by 5.5″ high; the log cabin is 3″ wide x 5″ high; the map is 10.5″ wide by 10″ high including the small soldiers on the road; the soldiers with “Battle of Princeton” motif is 12″ wide x 8″ high.
ADD ON: If you want us to pick out the hems so that the fabric is go-ready it is $30 per panel. Ping us to add that to an order, otherwise they will come as curtain panels for you to hang or for you to pick out to use for other projects.
