Lady Virginia Vintage Fabrics

Gracious living that's light on the earth

You are here: Home / Vintage Fabric Samples / 1960s Bob Collins Yellow Floral Fabric Sample

COLORS: Pics look brownish — this piece is definitely yellow and a bright cheery yellow at that! The background yellow is a rich mustard (less brown, more yellow) with grass green, garnet, and burnt orange flowers, with accents in red-black and black. The white leaves and branches are a creamy off-white (natural canvas of the piece) and the leaf lines are taupe.

FIBER: A mid- to heavier-weight canvas finish in 100% cotton.

SIZE: 47.5″ wide + 1.5″ selvage on each side” x 42″ long.Flowers range from 1.5-4″.

CONDITION: Excellent! The selvedge shows some age-related browning but the piece itself is clear and in great shape. Any slight discolorations appear to me to be a part of the weave or print echoes, again, a charming thing and not a flaw as such.

Maker: Bob Collins, Inc. was founded in Philadelphia by Bob Collins in the 1950s though his life in textiles and textiles design went back to the 1920s. In addition to their own Bob Collins pieces they also represented some of the smaller but important boutique fabric houses like Franciscan Fabrics and kent Bragaline.

1960s Bob Collins Yellow Floral Fabric Sample

$149.00

Extremely rare and collectible. So much more beautiful in person than the pics show.

SEE COLOR NOTE BEFORE ORDERING.

If you’re loving the yellow vibe this year, feast your eyes on this vivid and exciting foliage-forward floral with its emphasis on line detail and the contrast between negative space in the leaves and saturate color in the flowers and buds. There is a notable painterly quality to this piece as a result of the lovely hand printing and the dye application. Particularly amazing are the elongated green flowers with their loping petals — the color detail on top of that in mint green and black is amazing in person.

Coming from Mid Century firm Bob Collins Incorporated back in his time on Walnut Street in Philly. #56330 in his archive.

Clearly hand printed, there are some line details which could easily be mistaken for errors or pencil marks — they are not. This is an echo style hand print with multiple layers and the “off-register” look is part of its design appeal.

When I visit #historichouses I am, of course, part When I visit #historichouses I am, of course, particularly interested in the fabrics and textiles. These shots are of some drapes, carpeting, and #wallpaper from the @grantcottage, where General (and President) Ulysses S. Grant lived out his final months and finished his widely-hailed #memoirs. Visit it in New York outside of Saratoga Springs.

Isn’t that black #sunflower — or is it #chrysanthemum — pattern on the drapes amazing? And the one wallpaper looks like a #williammorris design. None of the items in the house are #reproductions — they’re all exactly as they were in 1885, perfectly preserved history.
