SIZE: 23.5″ wide + 1.75″ left hand selvedge x 30.5″ long
COLOR: A luminescent and bright chartreuse (more vibrant than the pics) over a pale sky blue resist of the motif.
CONDITION: Excellent — the texture is a nubbly nature that is the nature of the weave and style, not flaws.
1960s Eaglesham “Resist” Chartreuse Fabric Sample
Chartreuse to the max! Surely it is called “Resist” because it must have been the resist method of batik it is referring to. Hand printed by Eaglesham, presumably a Scottish firm but my research is coming up a little short so far on the origins.
This piece is a total rescue mission story. Found at the bottom of a box holding unrelated antique finds, this piece was a hot mess! Filthy dirty, folded up into stiff creases, and totally unloved, we turned its life around with significant restoration work leading to a piece today with no stains, a strong weave, and ready to be re-purposed into your vintage upcycled project.
