MAKER: Franco Scalamandré has a great story to tell of coming to America in the 20s from Italy and making a huge success of himself. From engineer, to historic textile researcher, to major design firm and more, Scalamandré is synonymous with quality, success, and above all, historic preservation. Do take some time to read up on the phenomenal Scalamandré history here: https://www.scalamandre.com/history and a NY Times obit on Franco: https://www.nytimes.com/1988/03/04/obituaries/franco-scalamandre-89-leader-in-making-of-decorative-textiles.html
1969 Scalamandré Siracusa Fabric Sample
A 1969 Scalamandré linen, “Siracusa” offers a multiplicitous, energetic patterning perhaps abstracted off of Byzantine like busy designs of the 16th century but with more earthtones than might appear in my photos. Medium weight hand has almost a tea towel feel.
