I’m excited to announce a roll out of new sustainable packaging for most Lady Virginia Vintage Fabrics order.
Don’t get me wrong — we’ve ALWAYS had sustainable, all re-used packaging. Long time customer will recall that I call this “my beautiful ugly packaging.” I even wrote a blog post about it back in the day.
The big deal about that packaging (pictured to the left) — and my longstanding environmental commitment — is that ALL my packaging inside and out (except tape) was 100% re-used. I had a bunch of friends, neighbors, and other businesses saving packaging for me from shipments they received, and the rest of my packaging was from deadstock and vintage supplies of tissue, ribbon, and package toppers.
That has been great. In four years as Lady Virginia Vintage Fabrics we’ve kept our carbon footprint almost nonexistent, especially since Etsy ships all packages with carbon offsets.
Now we’re about to make an exciting new change.
My Beautiful, Beautiful Packaging
I decided recently to go in a new direction because there’s been so many advances in using post-consumer waste, healthy inks, and biodegradable materials to make new packaging. And I’ve been so pleased with EcoEnclose*, the folks who made my branding sticker, that I decided to check out their other solutions.
In the end I decided to go with two sizes of their 100% recycled poly mailers that are printed with vegetable-based inks. So on most of your next orders, you’ll receive your vintage fabric in these new, light weight, mailing sleeves. They’re fully re-usable so we hope that you’ll give them at least one more use when you have something to send out, too.
You’ll see a card from EcoEnclose in your packages, too, so you can learn more about their planet-freindly solutions.
And…since we’re just about to launch a new division — Lady Virginia Vintage Handmade (more on that in an upcoming blog post) — we also have new fabric and product tags made with 100% post-consumer waste (PCW) paper and vegetable-ink tags. These tags tell our story, and they are great for when you’re giving fabric or one of our handmade items as a gift.
Sometimes when the fabric or other item is too big for my new mailers we’ll still use our re-used business packaging only with a Lady Virginia Vintage Fabrics sticker added to it.
Our tissue, inside plastic protective sleeves, and ribbon will continue to come from deadstock and vintage sources for now because we’re big fans of re-use, there’s lots of it out there, and we want to try this new packaging out and see what our customers think before doing any more. We hope you’ll love it and all of its sustainable features.
Happy shopping and healthy shipping!
